Austin initiated a project to develop a line of SEAL influenced performance wear to be unique within the SEAL community and used to benefit the Navy SEAL Foundation. State Camo along with some of Austin’s teammates and friends agreed to continue with what he had begun. The “AI" brand was born to honor Austin’s memory as a respected warrior, trusted teammate, beloved brother, thoughtful and loving son, and a joy to the lives of many.
Austin Irby had a lifelong ambition to be a Navy SEAL, and this is evident by a second grade paper he wrote in crayon and said exactly that. Immediately after graduation from the University of Florida, he made his application to the Navy. In 2012, Austin completed BUD/s with class 285 and reported to his first command, SDVT-1. Austin was awarded the Bronze Star, two Navy Commendation Medals, and three Navy Achievement Medals. He died while still active 10 years later.
Perhaps what all SEALs have in common is the will to persevere and the desire for the highest form of camaraderie. What may have further distinguished Austin was his desire for fair and equitable accountability which he demonstrated and expected from the people around him. His doubled edged humor, and likability earned him the nickname “Big Irb” from his teammates.
Austin marked his personal gear with a symbol formed from his interlocked initials, “AI”. This is incorporated into the design of every AI branded product. From the day he left home for basic training at Great Lakes Naval Training Center, Austin kept a journal. On occasion, an entire page would be dedicated to a quote. Some were attributed, some were not. Austin was a voracious reader and it appears the quotes came most often from whatever he was reading at the time. AI branded items include a quote taken from his journal.
